With just a bit of online research and your enthusiasm, you can help neighbors easily find volunteer opportunity platforms, service clubs, mutual aid groups, and more—making it simpler than ever for everyone to make an impact locally.

Volunteer and help older adults and caregivers in your community! 

As a Senior LinkAge Line volunteer, you will learn new skills, meet new people, gain a greater sense of purpose, and much more - all while giving back to your community. 

You can volunteer locally and do community outreach, help people with Medicare, help people complete forms and applications, or give educational presentations. 

Once you complete a successful background check and training, you’ll receive a certification as a State Health Insurance & Assistance Program (SHIP) counselor. After that, you will continue to receive ongoing support, guidance, and training.

Wish granters sign up to grant the wish of a child in their area, meet the child and their family, help the child determine their top wish ideas, and then stay in touch to keep their spirits up while staff work on the logistics of the wish! Wish granting volunteers work in teams of two or three to plan and help fulfill each wish and have the opportunity to make the wish as unique as each child. Wish granters also act as the liaison between the family and the Foundation and assist in seeking goods for the child’s wish.

Training is provided, and is flexible with your schedule.

Tutor K-8 students needing academic support in Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies.

Meals on Wheels is a program that delivers already made meals to individuals, primarily senior citizens, at home who are unable to purchase or prepare their own meals. Currently, we have routes in Virginia, Eveleth, Biwabik, Aurora, and Hoyt Lakes that are currently needing volunteers. Routes can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and are typically delivered around the noon hour. Background checks are required to volunteer for this program. 

The Groceries to Go Program provides a grocery service to homebound older adults unable to manage grocery shopping. This helps seniors remain active and independent in their own homes. This service is offered in Hibbing, Chisholm, Mountain Iron, Virginia, Eveleth, Gilbert, Biwabik, Aurora, and Hoyt Lakes. Volunteers shop at Super One and deliver groceries directly to clients' home. Groceries can be delivered anytime the volunteers have time between Tuesday afternoon and Friday afternoon. A background check is required to volunteer for this program.

Volunteers play a critical role within our community! Volunteers help strengthen the mission of the Sexual Assault Program of NSLC to help empower victims and survivors of Sexual Violence! In order to become a volunteer a minimum of 40 Hours of Advocacy training is required. Training standards are set by the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault and our agency. The training will occur, and a date will be set for training once we have enough volunteers who have submitted a written application. Hopefully training will be set up in the Fall of 2024.

To become a Volunteer with Northern St. Louis County's Sexual Assault Program, the following requirements must be met:

Volunteer drivers pick up clients at their residence, bring them to the place of their out-of-town medical appointment and, afterwards, return them home. Drivers must pass a background check and use their own, insured vehicle. 

AMERICAN RED CROSS DISASTER ACTION TEAM

The Disaster Action Team (DAT) responds to local disasters, providing immediate emotional support, financial assistance, and information to help clients begin their recovery process. Working as part of a team, they follow established procedures to ensure safety and continuity, maintain communication with team members and leadership, and assess the need for additional resources. Specialists complete client case management tasks, attend team meetings, and collaborate effectively in a dynamic environment. They must handle time-sensitive issues, maintain flexibility, and work independently while adhering to Red Cross principles and guidelines.

Time commitment expectations: three (3) 6-hour shifts/month. 

AMERICAN RED CROSS SHELTERING SERVICE ASSOCIATE

This position supports the Regional Disaster Cycle Services department. The Sheltering Service Associate is a temporary position assigned to work in person in a Red Cross shelter before, during and/or after a disaster event. Sheltering Service Associates complete tasks necessary for shelter operations and interacts with clients to ensure their needs are met. Sheltering Service Associates support the day-to-day activities within a shelter, which can include working in reception, registration, feeding, dormitory, information or other areas within a shelter.

AMERICAN RED CROSS BLOOD DONOR AMBASSADOR

This position supports the Regional Biomedical Services department. This opportunity requires participation in in-person activities and/or performing work in a Red Cross facility. The purpose of the Blood Donor Ambassador is to provide excellent and enthusiastic customer service to enhance the blood donor experience. Express gratitude and ensure each blood donor is sincerely thanked for their donation.

Volunteers pick up shopping lists from our office on Wednesday mornings and shop at SuperOne for one to three program participants. They then deliver the groceries to the participants' homes, often visiting for a little while. A couple shoppers also serve as order takers on Tuesday mornings. Pick the days you can help.
