The Beyond the Yellow Ribbon-Hibbing/Chisholm and Perpetual Care of Minnesota have scheduled four opportunities to clean and scrub the years of mold and dirt off veterans headstones in the Maple Hill Cemetery in Hibbing (across from Walmart). Volunteers can pick any of the sessions as we work our way through the cemetery scrubbing and identifying veteran headstones.
It is best to wear clothes that can get a little dirty and a little damp as you will be sitting on the ground using scrub brushes, toothbrushes, water, and a little bit of elbow grease.
All of the headstones were sprayed with "Wet and Forget" before Memorial Day which should have loosened much of the dirt and debris so scrubbing will be generally light but still needed work and care must be taken that only the bristles touch the headstone not the handles.
Wheelchair access may be difficult through the uneven grass.
Children over 10 are welcome but require parent/guardian adult supervision to be present.
If you have any questions about this volunteer opportunity, please contact Chris at btyrhc@gmail.com or 218.969.7137.
Meet at the South West corner of the Cemetery near the Traffic light at Hwy 169 and 73.
